Apao Rolling Hills is a breathtaking and underrated destination perfect for nature lovers, adventurers, and photographers. The journey may be challenging, but the reward is an unforgettable experience filled with tranquility and stunning landscapes. Whether you're visiting for a short trek, a peaceful retreat, or an overnight camping trip, Apao is sure to leave you in awe.

The Journey to Apao Rolling Hills:

Apao Rolling Hills, located in Tineg, Abra, is one of the province's hidden gems. The journey to this scenic spot is an adventure in itself. From Bangued, the capital of Abra, you’ll need to take a rough yet picturesque ride through winding mountain roads and lush greenery. The trip usually requires a 4x4 vehicle or a sturdy motorcycle, as the roads can be rugged, especially after rain.

Once you arrive at the jump-off point, a short trek awaits. As you hike up, you'll be surrounded by vast open landscapes with rolling green hills stretching endlessly. The fresh mountain air, the sound of rustling leaves, and the panoramic views make every step worth it.

Experience at Apao Rolling Hills:

Upon reaching the top, you're welcomed by an awe-inspiring 360-degree view of the hills, valleys, and even the distant Abra River snaking through the landscape. The sight of the undulating terrain covered in lush green grass feels like stepping into a painting.

  • Sunrise & Sunset Views – The best times to visit are early morning and late afternoon. A golden sunrise over the hills is magical, while the sunset bathes the landscape in warm hues, making it a perfect time for photography.
  • Peace & Serenity – Since Apao is still relatively undiscovered, it's usually quiet and uncrowded, making it an ideal escape for those who want to disconnect from city life.
  • Camping & Stargazing – For adventurers, an overnight stay is highly recommended. The lack of city lights makes for a stunning stargazing experience.

Tips for Visiting Apao Rolling Hills:

  • Transportation – Hire a local guide and rent a reliable 4x4 or motorcycle, as the terrain is rough.
  • Wear Proper Gear – Comfortable hiking shoes, lightweight clothing, and sun protection (hat, sunscreen) are a must.
  • Bring Enough Supplies – There are no stores nearby, so pack food, water, and camping essentials if you plan to stay overnight.
  • Check the Weather – The best time to visit is during the dry season (November to May) to avoid muddy and slippery trails.
  • Respect Nature – Leave no trash behind and be mindful of the environment to help preserve the beauty of the place.

The sea of clouds can also be seen in the early morning. To reach Apao paradise hills, you have to travel an hour and a half from the provincial capital of Bangued. The road is not fully concreted yet, but any type of vehicle can pass. Before reaching this place, you will have to cross the city of Tayum and pass the third longest bridge in the entire Philippines, the Don Mariano Marcos Bridge in the town of Dolores and San Juan. Going to the Apao Hills, you need to register at the Municipal Hall and get some advice from local tourism officials. Apao Hills has been becoming a national attraction lately, and many local tourists have come to visit this place in the past few months.
